And yet I am convinced that there are even better things to come. Dollys secrets still unfolding In the winter of 2013, I found myself driving on the wrong side of the road through the Nottingham countryside. In contrast to the luscious landscape, I was in a state of gloom: I was on my way to see Keith Campbells family after his sudden death a few weeks earlier. Keith was a smart, fun, loving friend who, along with Ian Wilmut and colleagues at the Roslin Institute, had brought us Dolly 15 years earlier. We had met at a conference in the early 1990s, when we were both budding scientists playing around with cloning, Keith with sheep, I with cows. An extrovert by nature, he quickly dazzled me with his wit, self-deprecating humor and nonstop chat, all delivered in a thick West Midlands accent. Our friendship that began then continued until his death. When I knocked at the door of his quaint farmhouse, my plan was to stay just a few minutes, pay my respects to his wife and leave. Five hours and several Guinnesses later, I left feeling grateful. Keith could do that to you, but this time it wasnt Keith, it was his latest work speaking for him.

CST March 08, 2017 CONNECT TWEET LINKEDIN GOOGLE+ PINTEREST SAN ANTONIO – On Wednesday, people across the country and the world celebrated InternationalWomen’s Day, a global day recognizing the achievements of women. San Antonio had its own women’s day celebration that was hosted by the Mayor’s Commission on the Status of Women. “I think we are certainly a great example as far as having women in leadership,” Mayor Ivy Taylor said. There are several prominent women leaders in San Antonio including the mayor, the city manager, the CEO and assistant manager of the Spurs and the president of Texas A&M University-San Antonio among others. While these women leaders say that there’s a lot to be proud of in San Antonio, there is still progress to be made. “There’s still some work for us to do. Quite often I’m in important meetings with leaders in the business community and other sectors, and myself and Sheryl Sculley, the city manager, are often the only women in the room,” Mayor Taylor said. The commission also gave approximately $75,000 to more than 20 local women to pursue a higher education. “Sometimes you feel that, as a woman, you’re not going to get as many opportunities as men. But this is proving otherwise, so I’m very proud and I’m very happy to win this scholarship today,” said Natalia Salto, a scholarship winner.
